New York Internships

Internship opportunities across New York

In addition to numerous local internships, Jamestown Community College provides access to internships across New York State as a NY school and through our membership with the State University of New York.

How to apply

  1. Meet with Career Services and your academic advisor to discuss how an internship fits into your academic plans.
  2. Apply for the internship through the partner site.
  3. If accepted, notify Career Services so we can write a learning contract.

NYS government internships

JCC students can apply for the New York Leaders intern program through the Department of Civil Service, which provides a centralized location to access all NYS government internships.

SUNY partnership internships

As a JCC student, you can apply for internships exclusively for SUNY students. Organizations and agencies across New York have partnered with SUNY to offer internship opportunities to students enrolled in a SUNY school.

Brooklyn Public Library Internships

Brooklyn Public Library offers a summer internship for currently enrolled SUNY students. Interns will gain experience with the expert, behind-the-scenes teams who oversee library operations in fields including marketing, IT, and finance.

Brooklyn Public Library is one of the nation’s largest library systems, providing library service for over 125 years and emphasizing personal advancement, civic literacy, and community.

Empire State Service Corps

Empire State Service Corps offers opportunities in paid public service work for 300 hours over the course of an academic year. Selected SUNY students are placed in a cohort aligned with their interest areas and will serve at either an on-campus or community-based host site.

SUNY Climate Corps Internships

SUNY Climate Corps paid internships focus on environmental and sustainability-related opportunities at partner New York state agencies over the summer:

  • Department of Environmental Conservation
  • Department of Public Service
  • New York Energy Research and Development Authority
  • Office of General Services
  • Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Development
  • SUNY Central

Internships can be in fields like environmental engineering, conservation, cybersecurity, planning and development, artificial intelligence, communications, finance and operations, and clean energy.

SUNY Institute for Local News Internships

The SUNY Institute for Local News offers summer internships for SUNY students to work in local newsrooms as a continuation of their studies. The internships are offered through SUNY along with the Empire State Development Corporation and the SUNY Research Foundation.

  • Interested students should have previous reporting experience through campus or community work.
  • Students are invited to partner with their own media destinations for the summer. SUNY ILN can help find partnerships as needed.

SUNY ILN supports university-led student reporting programs that contribute to local news, and is funded in part by The Lumina Foundation.
