Faculty Toolkit for Career Education

Integrate career readiness education

Enhance your students’ Jamestown Community College experience with career readiness education. As you connect your teaching with career pathways, your students will explore different fields, develop industry-specific and soft skills, and learn how their education leads to their career goals. These experiences will help students prepare for success after JCC, whether they are transferring or entering the workforce.

According to research by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE):

  • 86% of students said that they turn to their faculty members for career advice.
  • 92% of faculty said that their current students and program alumni come to them for career advice, and they want to have current resources to better support their students.

Career Services is here to empower faculty with resources, information, and tools to assist you as you help prepare students for their future careers.

Career Competencies Icons

Career Services stands behind the Career Readiness Initiative by NACE, the National Association of Colleges & Employers. According to NACE research, eight essential career competencies were identified as essential for college graduates to have, regardless of academic major, as they transfer to advanced college degrees or employment opportunities: career and self-development, communication, critical thinking, equity and inclusion, leadership, professionalism, teamwork, and technology.

We encourage faculty to embed our JCC-branded icons into their course syllabi, assignments, and classroom presentations, as a way to help students identify the skills they develop in the classroom. Our goal is to create a common language between students, faculty, staff, and employers. Students can recognize and articulate the skills they possess - and the ways in which they developed such skills - when talking with future employers and transfer institutions.

Forage Career Simulations

Forage is a career exploration tool offering over 300 real-world job simulations to help students build skills, explore career pathways, and apply what they’re learning in the classroom to potential careers. Faculty can create curated lists of relevant and recommended simulations that you can assign in class, for extra credit, or for extra experience for students looking for guidance. Once students complete a simulation, they’ll earn a certificate that they can add to their resumes and LinkedIn profiles. Learn about Forage for students »
