Hire student workers in your department
On-campus student employment at Jamestown Community College is an opportunity to expand your department’s workforce and help develop our students’ career readiness, which will serve them well into their futures. Students want to work on campus, and you can make a difference by hiring a student worker!
Working hours
During the academic year, student workers can work up to 15 hours per week, and schedules depend on department needs and student availability. If a student worker has more than one position on campus, they still may only work a maximum of 15 hours per week between all on-campus jobs. During the summer, student workers can work up to 40 hours per week.
Student workers earn the current NYS minimum wage.
Enrollment requirements
Students must be accepted for JCC admission and enrolled in six credit hours or more during the fall or spring semester in which they are working on campus. Students who fall below six credit hours are not eligible to work on campus as a student worker.
Student assistant & FWS positions
At JCC, you may hire student assistant and/or Federal Work Study (FWS) positions. Student assistant positions are available to both domestic and international students, regardless of their financial aid packages.
Federal Work Study positions are only available for domestic students who qualify for this program through their FAFSA application. If a student is unsure of their FWS eligibility status, they should contact Financial Aid & Billing.
- Being FWS eligible does not mean that a student should be hired over others. Students must still apply to, interview for, and be selected for an on-campus position, and you should hire the best person for the position.
- FWS positions can only work during the academic year and cannot work during the summer months.
- Students working FWS positions must meet all federal eligibility requirements, including satisfactory academic progress, as determined by Financial Aid & Billing.
- Students eligible for FWS funding are assigned a maximum amount they can earn from this program for the academic year. Changes to their financial aid resources, living arrangements, satisfactory academic progress, and level of enrollment may alter their FWS eligibility. You and your student worker will be notified of any changes.
- For the 2024-25 academic year, students can earn FWS funds from August 26, 2024 through May 17, 2025.
