What is Academic Recovery?
Academic Recovery status at Jamestown Community College means a student is not meeting the minimal standards based on Federal Aid Eligibility Chart A. Typically, achieving a "satisfactory level" entails maintaining a 2.00 GPA and earning a sufficient number of credit hours.
Students in Academic Recovery who continue to fall short of this standard may be placed in Academic Jeopardy status.
What happens if you are placed in Academic Recovery?
We see many reasons why students find themselves in Academic Recovery. It is rare that the only reason is academic; students find themselves overwhelmed with balancing school and the rest of life.
It is strongly encouraged to meet with a counselor from the Success Center to identify specific reasons for academic struggles. Counselors will assist in devising a Success Plan for the next semester to support academic success.
It is strongly recommended to discuss your financial aid eligibility with Financial Aid & Billing prior to the beginning of the semester. Failure to maintain satisfactory progress may result in you being ineligible for financial aid, potentially resulting in tuition, fees, housing, and other expenses becoming your responsibility.
Can you appeal Academic Recovery?
Students retain the right to appeal any academic standings decision. However, since Academic Recovery is based on a mathematical calculation from Chart A, it's unlikely that the designation will be revoked
