What is Academic Jeopardy?
Academic Jeopardy status at Jamestown Community College means a student has not met the standards on Federal Aid Eligibility Chart A for two or more semesters.
The student will have an additional semester to improve their cumulative grade point average and hours earned, or face possible suspension in subsequent semesters. During this time, students will be required to access support measures to assist in recovering their grades.
If the student fails to meet the minimal standards based on Federal Aid Eligibility Chart A, then the student may face Academic Suspension.
What happens if you are placed in Academic Jeopardy?
Various factors contribute to students finding themselves in Academic Jeopardy, often extending beyond academic challenges to include difficulties in balancing academic pursuits with other life commitments.
It is mandatory to meet with a counselor from the Success Center to identify specific reasons for academic struggles. Counselors will assist in devising a Success Plan for the next semester to support academic success.
It is strongly recommended to discuss your financial aid eligibility with Financial Aid & Billing prior to the beginning of the semester. If a student on Academic Jeopardy enrolls and attends classes for the next semester, they may owe for some or all of the tuition, fees, housing, and other expenses.
Can you appeal Academic Jeopardy?
Students retain the right to appeal any academic standings decision. However, since Academic Jeopardy is based on the calculation of your cumulative GPA, it's unlikely that the designation will be revoked.
