About the space
JCC's pediatric clinic, Jayhawk Explore & Soar: Occupational Therapy Clinic for Families, is located in the OTA department, providing services to children in need and educating OTA students through hands-on experiences.
- The entryway to the clinic is brightly colored with a sitting area for families to wait and for children to remove shoes and put on anti-slip socks, provided by the clinic. In an effort to help guide children through the routine when entering the clinic, visual cues are provided.
- The Fort Calm corner is designed to provide calming through multi-sensory experiences. This area is surrounded by a sound canceling half wall/room divider.
- The Makers Place table area allows for seated activities and sensory feedback through sensory bins and hands-on tasks.
- The Challenger Base sensory gym allows children to play and explore through gross motor, visual, and tactile feedback.
- The SEARCH Center office allows practitioners and students to connect with caregivers and families in a safe and comfortable environment to establish a client-centered plan of care for their children.
- The OTA classroom, connected to the clinic, provides a learning environment for OTA students involved with the clinic.
