SUNY Jamestown Community College’s David Boyd was recently named 2024 Head Athletic Trainer of the Year for two-year institutions by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Intercollegiate Council for Sports Medicine.

Each year the Intercollegiate Council for Sports Medicine recognizes one individual for exceptional performance as a head athletic trainer in the following collegiate divisions: NCAA divisions I, II, and III, NAIA, two-year institutions, and club/intramural/recreational sports. Award recipients are actively involved in their community or campus, athletic training associations, and promotion of the profession.

Award winners will be honored during the National Athletic Trainers’ Association symposium on June 26 in New Orleans.

As JCC’s head athletic trainer since August 2021, Boyd provides injury prevention and rehabilitation coverage for the college’s 14 intercollegiate teams and student-athletes.

Boyd has been a certified athletic trainer since 2010. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from West Virginia University, a master’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Mercyhurst University, and a doctorate in Athletic Training from Indiana State.

Former JCC athletic trainer Aimee Brunelle won the same award in 2015.
