College Connections Courses

College Connections courses & requirements​

Course offerings vary by high school. Please check with your high school guidance counselor to determine which College Connections courses are offered at your school. All students must meet the course requirements below prior to registering for a College Connections course.

Eligibility

Key terms for student requirements:

  • Eligibility: meets qualifications for course (does not need to have taken it)
  • Corequisite: course that must be taken at the same time
  • Prerequisite: course that must be taken prior to enrolling
  • * denotes new course or update to course from previous year
Eligibility for ENG 1510 (Without Supports)

Students must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Ranked in the top 10.00% of class
  • PSAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing score of 560+
  • ACCUPLACER Reading score of 250+
  • ACCUPLACER Reading score of 245-249 and at least one success indicator (see following)
  • Seniors who meet one of the following criteria:
    • An unweighted cumulative GPA of 80+
    • An unweighted cumulative GPA of 75-79 AND at least one success indicator (see following)
  • Juniors or sophomores who meet one of the following criteria:
    • English 10 or 11 final grade of 90+ (or 85+ with teacher recommendation)
    • Global Studies II final grade of 90+ (or 85+ with teacher recommendation)

Success indicators for English:

  • NYS Regents scores of 85+ on the global history or U.S. history
  • and government exams
  • SAT evidence-based reading and writing score of 500+
  • ACT reading score of 21+
  • Score of 3+ on any AP exam
  • 85+ in 11th grade English

Students who do not meet any of the above requirements may take ENG 1510 with supports, which means they must be co-enrolled in the English Composition I Workshop with the same instructor.

Eligibility for Math

Eligibility requirements are listed for each math course.

Multiple measures are used, which means there are different ways a student can qualify for a course.

An ACCUPLACER QAS score is one way to determine a student’s eligibility for college-level math. It is only required if a student does not qualify through high school coursework/grades.

Sophomore Eligibility

Sophomores may register for College Connections if they meet the eligibility requirements for the course AND the following criteria:

  • Cumulative GPA of 80+
  • 15 years of age or older before the last day of the class
