*Please note for the 2019-2020 academic year ONLY, students may go directly into ENG 1530 without ENG 1510 (though this is not recommended).

** All students must either score 80/250+ on the reading test or have a GPA of 80%+ at the end of their junior year. No reading waivers allowed.

Reading placement test exemptions for 2019-2020

  • Students with documentation from their high school that they are in the top 10% of their class are exempt from the reading portion of the placement test.
  • Students with a final GPA of 80%+ at the end of their junior year are exempt from the reading portion of the placement test.
  • Students with a final GPA of 75-79% at the end of their junior year OR who score between a 245-249 on the Next-Gen Accuplacer reading (or a 70-79 on the Classic Accuplacer reading) placement test may be eligible to use a waiver for the reading requirement if they meet one of the following additional criteria:
    • Documentation of NYS Global Regents or American History & Government Regents score of 85%+
    • 85%+ in 11th grade English
    • 3+ score on any AP exam
    • Documentation of SAT reading score of 500+ within the last 3 years of the start of the class
    • Documentation of ACT reading score 21+ within the last 3 years of the start of the class

Math placement test exemptions for 2019-2020

  • The math portion of the placement test may be waived if the student has passed either HS precalculus or calculus.
  • In the case of a spring semester College Connections courses with a math testing requirement, the student is exempt from testing if they are currently enrolled in a full-year HS precalculus or calculus course.
  • Students are exempt from the math portion of the placement test if they have one of the following:
    • Algebra II Regents score of 85%+
    • SAT math score of 530+
    • ACT math score of 23+
